Kitchen Garden Foods Ltd seeks to operate with regard at all times to its environmental impact and to heighten awareness of environmental issues in its business operations. The Company has taken a number of steps to help it to operate more sustainably and to improve its environmental performance. We aim to continuously improve upon the measures already taken and to work with other organisations who can assist us in this process.
Our policy is specifically aimed at the following areas :-
We purchase electricity for three of our four buildings from Ecotricity www.ecotricity.co.uk the worlds first green electricity company and still the only supplier in the UK investing solely in new green energy generation.
Following an audit from Envirowise www.envirowise.gov.uk we have introduced timers to our main items of cooking equipment to reduce wasted energy, we have fitted energy efficient light bulbs where possible and we ensure that all computers are switched off at night rather than being left on standby.
We comply with the latest packaging standards laid down by the Soil Association www.soilassociation.org
We encourage our retail customers to return the outer packaging from our products for re-use.
All of our cardboard waste is separated and sent for recycling. We use recycled paper in our office.
We advertise our waste plastic containers on Freecycle www.freecycle.org for collection and re-use by individuals and community groups.
We are currently in discussion with Ywaste www.y-waste.org with regard to recycling more of our waste.
We work with Fareshare www.fareshare.org who take surplus food products for distribution to disadvantaged people.
