Environmental Policy Statement

Kitchen Garden Foods Ltd seeks to operate with regard at all times to its environmental impact and to heighten awareness of environmental issues in its business operations. The Company has taken a number of steps to help it to operate more sustainably and to improve its environmental performance. We aim to continuously improve upon the measures already taken and to work with other organisations who can assist us in this process.

Our policy is specifically aimed at the following areas :-

Energy Consumption

We purchase electricity for three of our four buildings from Ecotricity www.ecotricity.co.uk the worlds first green electricity company and still the only supplier in the UK investing solely in new green energy generation.

Following an audit from Envirowise www.envirowise.gov.uk we have introduced timers to our main items of cooking equipment to reduce wasted energy, we have fitted energy efficient light bulbs where possible and we ensure that all computers are switched off at night rather than being left on standby. We are currently working with Severn Wye Energy Agency www.swea.co.uk to review and reduce our energy usage.

Recycling Waste

We comply with the latest packaging standards laid down by the Soil Association www.soilassociation.org

We encourage our retail customers to return the outer packaging from our products for re-use.

All of our cardboard waste is separated and sent for recycling. We use recycled paper in our office.

We advertise our waste plastic containers on Freecycle www.freecycle.org for collection and re-use by individuals and community groups. We also offer recyclable containers free of charge from our premises when available and this has proved very popular with other local businesses and passers-by.

Since May 2009 we have been recycling 75% of our waste including paper, cardboard, plastic and metal.

We work with Fareshare www.fareshare.org who take surplus food products for distribution to disadvantaged people.
